About Dr Fiona

I have been a GP for over 20 years, but prior to this I did a psychology degree at Oxford University.

I had always been fascinated by acupuncture after seeing how much it had helped my Mum when I was young. After qualifying and starting work as a GP, I started training in medical acupuncture with the British Medical Acupuncture Society and gained the Diploma in Medical Acupuncture in 2003. Since then, I have used acupuncture within my GP work. I still work as a GP both in the NHS and the private sector.

I believe that many physical conditions and symptoms are exacerbated by lifestyle, stress and emotional factors. I specialise in treating conditions like these in addition to the usual musculoskeletal problems people associate with acupuncture. Good examples of these complex conditions are migraine, IBS, fertility problems, menopause, eczema, recovery from cancer, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue.

My children have now reached the age where I have more time and flexibility and I am very excited to now be able to start using acupuncture in its own right! I love the fact that acupuncture appointments give me so much more time with my patients and allow me to get to know them and their lifestyles, and treat them holistically.

I have always loved the fact that acupuncture is so safe and free of the unwanted side effects of so many drugs. It is also an incredibly versatile treatment and a few needles can have beneficial effects on a host of symptoms - ranging from back pain to anxiety to IBS!The science behind acupuncture is fascinating and much better understood than many people realise. I find it amazing that what modern scientific understanding now guides us to do with our needles usually turns out to be remarkably similar to what the Chinese worked out by observation 3,000 years ago! But many patients value the assurance that symptoms are being overseen by a medically qualified professional who is able to understand and integrate conventional medical treatment and, importantly, recognise when symptoms might indicate a problem which requires further investigation.
